1.         Recount

Recount adalah teks yang digunakan untuk menceritakan pengalaman masa lalu, perjalanan hidup seseorang pada masa lalu, atau peristiwa sejarah masa lalu.

Contoh:

     One day, my friend, who studies in Australia, woke up late for lectures. She decided to take a public transport to college. Because she was late, she decided to have her usual mixed-rice breakfast on the bus. While she was eating, she suddenly noticed that those of the passengers were looking at her and she wondered why.

    Later she found out that it is prohibited to eat on public transport in Australia. This made her feel very awkward: if only someone had told her in advance...

2.         Narrative

     Narrative ada lah teks yang berisi cerita imajinasi atau dongeng dan bertujua untuk menghibur pendengar.

Contoh:    

     Once upon a time, there was a horrible monster called Grendel. He was half-man and half-monster. He lived in Denmark. One day, he went to the King’s Castle. The King and his men tried to kill the monster, but teir swords were useless. A knigth called Beowulf heard about the problem and went to Denmark to help the King.

     That night, Beowulf and his men took off their armour and put away their swords and went to sleep. The monster came into the castle and killed the knight. Beowulf woke up and fought the monster. Grendel went back to his home in a lake and died. Grendel’s mother was very angry, and the next night she went to the castle and killed a knight.

    In the morning, Beowulf went to the lake. He killed Grendel’s mother with a special sword. When he came back, the king was very happy and gave Beowulf present and money.

     Beowulf went back to his contry and became a king. He was king for fifty years. But oneday, a dragon came to his country, and it attacked people. The dragon lived i acave with treasure. It was very big and breathed fire. The knights were afraid, and they did not want to fight the dragon. King Beowulf was an old man, but he put on his armour again and went to the dragon’s cave with his men. (sorce: Detik-Detik).

3.         News Item

     News Item adalah teks yang memberitakan peristiwa-peristiwa atau kejadian sehari-hari yang dianggap penting atau layak diberitakan kepada pembaca.

Contoh:

 (CNN) – Italy’s MotoGP star Marco Simoncelli was killed in an accident in the Malaysian MotoGP on Sunday. The tragic accident happened when Simoncelli came off his bike at Turn 11 of the Sepang circuit whilst in fourth place. His Honda bike was swerved accross the track and he was hit by fellow competitors Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi. Simoncelli, 24, had his helmet knocked off in the crash and he lay motionless on the track.

     Colisn Edward also felt but escaped serious injury, while former multi-world champion Rossi returned unhurt to the pits on his Ducati. The race was abandoned ans Simoncelli was given emergency treatment at the track’s medical centre, but it was to no avail. “Marco Simoncelli succumbed to injuries sustained in the Malaysian MotoGP, read a short statement on the official MotoGP website to confirm the fatality. 4.         Report

Reprt adalah teks yang digunakan untuk melaporkan sesuatu apa adanyasebagai hasil pengamatan analitis. Teks mendeskripsikan sesuatu secara umum.

Contoh:

     What are houses in cold climates like? Let me tell you. In cold climates, there is more rain and snow than there is sun. So the hoses have steep, sloping roofs, so that snow can slide down from the top – otherwise there is a risk of the roof breaking under the weiight!

     The windows are small, to keep the warm air inside, and the cold air out. The walls are large and painted, to absorb as much as heat as possible. Rooms are small and the beds are often four-poster. In Russia, the beds are often mounted on big, ceramic heaters!

     When it is cold, there were also fewer daylight hours which bring valuable heat from the sun. This is why, until quite recently, the kitchen was the main room of the house, getting heat and light at the same time.

     Today, the houses in many cold countries have central heating and electricity to give light all through the day. But not long ago, to read a book in the warm whilst in snowed and rained outside seemed like a miracle -  not only at home but also at school. (Source: Detik-Detik)

5.         Descriptive

     Teks Descriptive ditulis untuk mendeskripsikan orang, tempat atau benda tertentu. Deskripsi orangbiasanya menampilkan identitas orang tersebut serta ciri fisik, karakter, kegemaran, dan aktifitas nya. Deskripsi hewanbiasanya tentang ciri-ciri fisik, tempat tinggal, kebiasaan dan kesukaannya. Deskripsi tempat meneranglan tentang letak/ lokasi, bagian-bagian, ciri-ciri khusus dan hal-hal menarik tentang tempat tersebut.

Contoh:

     Negeri Sembilan is unique among Malaysian states for its Adat Pepatih, a mtrilinial social system which came together with the Minangkabau people from the Indonesiaan island of Sumatra who settled in the state.

     The cultural heart of minangkabau culture in Negeri Sembilan is the pretty royal town of Seri Menanti, about 50 km from the state capital, Seremban. Here, you will find a traditionl timber palace. It was residence of Negeri Sembilan’s ruler until 1992 when it was turned into the Royal Museum. It is a showcase of Minangkabau architecture and design, and wwas built by two local craftsmen in 1908. No screws or nails were used in its construction – the curved roof which resembles the horns of buffalo.

     For more of the state’s history, you can head to the State Museum in Seremban which is also housed in former palace, the Istana Ampang Tinggi. The Adat Museum in Rembau, 25 km south of Seremban, contains a facsinating array of cultural and artifacts from handicrafted antiques to community heirlooms. Further to the south is the Pangkalan Kempas Historical Complex. Its most fascinating feature is a group of stone megaliths which are refereed to as batu hidup (living rocks). 6.         Review

Teks Review adalah teks yang bertujuan untuk memberi penilaian atau kritik terhadap peristiwa atau karya seni, misalnya film, pertunjukan, buku dan barang, kepada para pembaca atau pendengar khalayak ramai.

Contoh:

     I have a new science book, entitled Planet Earth: An Illustrated History. Let me tell you about the book.

     The first thing that you will notice about the book is the amazing photography. The editors of Time have once again brought together pictures that defy the imagination. They capture animals and natural events that seems fantastical in their beauty. You could spend hours just soaking in the photos.

     However, if you close the book-after looking at the photography, you will miss well-written, informative captions and essays that accompany the pictures. The coupling of facts which images will open the hearts of romantics to the beauty od science and cause the scientist to pause with wonder that is bigger the explanation.  

     Whether you would like to learn about the Northern Lights of of bees, Planet Earth seems to cover it all. It does not provide long, detailed information, but covers enough trivia to keep readers interested. 7.         Procedure

     Teks Procedure adalah teks yang memberi petunjuk tentang cara melakukan, menggunakan atau membuat sesuatu melalui serangkaian tindakan atau langkah . Teks ini terdiri atas bahan dan/atau instruksi yang harus dilakukan supaya tujuan bisa tercapai.

Contoh:

     If your refrigerator getting messy and dirty? I’ll advise you on how to clean it.

     First of all, prepare a cloth, a dish towel, a knife or spatula, vinegar and some water.Then, empty the refrigerator. Place the things on the table or in empty baskets. Throw out aged or inedible food. Toss out anything you don’t use regularly.

    After that, defrost the refrigerator. Use a knife or spatula to gently remove the ice built-up on the shelves and dispose of it.

    Next, wipe your refrigerator inside and outside using a cloth, vinegar and water. Rinse the cloth properly with clean water. Also, do not neglect to clean the door.

     Finally, use the dish towel to dry the refrigerator. Let it dry thoroughly before you replace everything. You should keep your erefrigerator organized with meat, cheese and butter on one shelf. It will be better if you store raw meat on the bottom shelf to avoid meat juices dripping on to the sehelf below. Put the vegetable in yje crisper.

     Clean your refrigerator once a mount. Please remember, do not wash a cold glass shelf with hot waer. The sudden temperature change could shatter the glass. (Source: Detik-Detik). 

8.         Exposition

     Ada dua macam teks exposition yaitu analytical exposition and hortatory exposition.

A.      Analytical Exposition adalah teks yang memaparkan dan mempengaruhi pembaca bahwa ada masalah yang perlu mendapat perhatian.

Contoh:

     A laptop is a kind of computer unit which has the same function as a PC (Personal Computer), but it is smaller, lighter and different sizes. Nowadays, most people choose laptops for several reasons.

     A laptop is a portable device. This portability is very useful for work, study and other activities. We do not need complicated cable installation to activate a laptop. With a laptop, we can do our work anytime and anywhere. Moreover, a laptop allows us to access called hot spot areas. Some people like to use this facility to carry out their tasks.

     Finally, a laptop consumes energy more efficiently than a PC does. This device uses a rechargeable battery as a source of electrica energy. So, if we prefer using a laptop, it means that we support the governmenet’s program to save energy. That’s why laptops have become very popular. (Source: Detik-Detik)

B.      Hortator Exposition yaitu teks yang memaparkan dan mempengaruhi pembaca bahwa sesuatu seharusnya demikian atau tidak demikian.

Contoh:

     I’m sure you know the meaning of corruption. Corruption is common everywhere in the world, evenin the U.S.A., but just a matter of intensity. Jakarta is the most corrupt placeinIndonesia.

     The survey saddens me, because I stay and earn a living in the capital. As we all know, smuggling in Tanjung Priok Port is no news at all. Bussinessmen who wish to minimize their tax payments bribe officials.

     Well, I think the measures taken to overcome the problem, by punishing corruptors have been insufficient. We have to prevent our younger generations from this.

    I believe we can start from the earlist stage, at school, and I think everyone should be involved in efforts to eradicate corruption. We must not amke any distinctions. (Source: Detik-Detk)

9.         Explanation

     Teks explanation adalah teks yang digunakan untuk menerangkan cara ( proses) sesuatu terjadi, terutma berkaitan dengan  fenomena alam, dunia ilmiah, atau sosial budaya.

Contoh:

     The human body is made up of millions of cells. Food is needed to build up new cells, to replace the worn out cells. However,the food we consumes must be changed into substances that can be carried in the blood to appropriate places. This process is called digestion.

     The first digestive process takes place in the mouth. The food we eat is broken up into small pieces by our teeth, mixed with saliva containing digestive juices which moisten the food so it can be swallowed easily.

     From the moouth, food passes through the esophagus-the food passages-into the stomach. Here the food is mixed with te juices secreted by the cells in the stomach for several hours. Then, the food enters the small intestine. All the time muscular waits of the intestine are squeezing, mixing and moving the food onwards.

     In a few hours, the food changes into acids. The acids are soon absorbed by the villi (microscopic branch projection from the intestine walls) and passed into bloodstream. (Source: Detik-Detik)
